Q: I have a rare HERPES question I cant seem to find an answer to online. :(

Hi and thanks...

I recently when to the doctor for a physical, I decided to get blood work done since I have never done it with any depth. I am 40 years old and never had a herpes test done. When the results came back I was negative for everything but positive for herpes antibodies HSV-2 in a tiny amount. I have never had an outbreak and have no clue when I could have caught this. AND... i took the test 6 months ago but just got the results so i didn't catch it recently. My girlfriend of 9 years is negative for it. Is it possible that I got it 10 or 20 years ago and never broke out or became contagious? Or could it be a false positive? Needing an experienced sincere answer.

Thank you so much.

So u said your test that u took is over 6 months old right?U said u took your std test 6 months ago & got the results back now. If u were only a tiny bit type 2 positive it has to be your current partner. The reason i say that is cause the smaller your number either its a false positive or its a rescent infection. When i was tested 6 months ago my number was a 4.10. So what that tells u is that ive had herpes for a few months now. I tested jan 16th of 09. So i asumed i contracted it some time in nov of 08. Thats how u do that. Now with u having a small number its most likely more rescent.

Now here is the next question shes negative. I dont understand that. When did she take the test for the herpes. 6 months ago to & then got the results back now as well. If thes negative mabye she has a past type 1 herpes infection. I believe it takes longer for people with a previous type 1 infection. I have a type 1 infection & usually the symtems are very milder then with a person that contacts herpes type 2 that dont have a previous infection.

If i were u i would have u both tested again. Now sense u havent tested in over 6 months your numbers are going to be higher. Now if she comes back negative this time then i have no idea of what to say.

If u were to tell me your number is high then yes i would say its possible u got it 10 years ago. Thats really possible but u said your type 2 infection is not a high number so ya im not sure what to say. Please update me on what happpens. Also if u have any other questions for me please message me.
