I have been with someone for four years and they got herpes.   We have always had unprotected sex, but now that he has herpes; I will not have unprotected sex with him.  He wants to have unprotected sex, but I don't.   He hasn't had any breakouts since his first one.  So Im not sure about how easy it would be to give it to me.   I just don't have enough info to make a decision. any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

even when he doesn't have any symptoms or signs of outbreaks it is still highly contagious, practicing safe sex will be ur best bet to prevent it from spreading

Have you been tested? Many have it and don't know from previous exposures. If you have not ever had a breakout that definitely does not mean you don't already have it. If you don't have it also then for sure you will both have to be educated and make decisions on how you are going to proceed. If you do have it then proceed as you were you can't get it twice!
