My understanding is that it can take anywhere from 2-20 + days for you to have the first outbreak after you have been exposed to HSV no matter what type it is. If you go to WEBMD.com you can read a lot about it. Everyone is different so it is hard to say how long it could take. Some people are carriers and dont have outbreaks. I have type 1 but my sister has type 2 and both are in our genitals. Even though we have different types we both breakout about once every 2 to 3 months. My sisters first out break was within 30 days of getting HSV2. My first out break was with in 2 weeks of getting HSV1. I hope this helps you a little.

There are two types of HSV, HSV type 1 and 2, and both can cause genital herpes.
