is is possible to have one herpes outbreak and never have a recurring one?

I contracted herpes last year. On my birthday, Oct. 24, 07 and never obtained another outbreak since. Neither has my ex (we just broke up so I'm aware of his body). Make it so bad... I contracted it from the pole at the stripclub because neither boyfriend or me was active before then. I don't know if it's possible that I don't have it anymore but I'm curious cuz its been close to a year w/o even a sign.

If I do have it should I tell my best friend because I'm seriously in love with him. He's an officer and we've been friends for two years and he wants to move out-of-state and to have kids, as do I. I don't know if I should tell him because I know its such a strong chance he'll rejected me.

Even though I'm 21 and really pretty, I don't know anyone who wants herpes even if they love the person. Please give me a little advice.

Once you have the Herpes virus it stays with you forever. The virus can "hide" meaning you still have it but no outbreaks occur. You can give the virus to your  sex partners even if you don't have an outbreak. I read this all in many different online medical articles. They all state the same conclusion. I am waiting for my test to come back if I have the virus or not.  I am freaked out.  I don't think anyone would ever want me if I have it!! I think you have to tell the person you have it.  You don't want to keep it a secret and then give it to him. I know if I have the virus that I will break down and be devastated. Why make innocent people go through the same thing, definitely tell any sexual partner.
