Q: I need to clarify. I have never had any symptoms

I have my gyn test me for for what I thought was everything every year. This time when I had blood drawn for an HIV test she also marked it to be tested for syphllis and herpes. It came back that I had been exposed to herpes at some point, she couldn't tell me when of course, but apparently my blood developed antibodies to it. She said I could have been exposed as long as 10 years ago and that it may never develop.  I guess like I'm a carrier, I don't know.  I am now in a committed relationship and I'm not looking forward to telling him. I assuming that being that I have only developed antibodies and never an outbreak that my exposure to the person who gave it to me was minimal.  My doctor did not prescribe me anything or tell me to come back in or anything unless of course I have an outbreak.  Which makes me think, I mean hope, that it will never develop into anything.  Am I wrong?  Is she wrong?

only your assumptions are incorrect.  You could be shedding and not know it since many women who "shed herpes" have no symptoms.  Stress at any time could cause the physical lesions and pain to finally express themselves.

You do need to tell your partner that you have herpes and that your exposure may have been awhile ago.  You should be using a condom at all times and consider the fact that oral sex may not be worth the risk for him.  If you have had sex without protection - then he probably should be tested with both IgG and IgM for recent and past exposure.
