What to do if my partner and I have herpes?

Please
06/18/08

I have a lot on my mind and seem to can't find the answer. First off, let me tell you my story. I had sores around my genital area so I went to the gynecologist and he told me it looked like herpes. He did a culture test and it's been 3 weeks and my results haven't came in yet. I called him and he told me that I most likely have it because my PAP smear test showed some changes. I asked him if I should get on medication and he told me no that I should just wait until the next outbreak. I asked him if it was HSV 1 or 2 and he told me it doesn't matter because they're the same thing. What am I suppose to think of this or do because my gynecologist is no help? I want to get on medication to decrease outbreaks my he told me to wait. Should I wait?

Next is that I told my partner that I had herpes and he freaked out and went and got tested and he too has herpes. Both he and I are dealing with this and we don't know what to do. If he and I both have herpes, can we still be sexually active with each other? Are there anything he and I should be worried about or we're okay since we both have herpes already? I tried to research this but I seem to can't find any information. Please help me. Sorry about bothering with my questions and thank you for answering!!
