Q: HSV1 (oral), HSV1 (genital), HSV2 (oral), HSV2 (genital)??????

I'm seeing all over this site in the questions and answers that there can be HSV1 both oral and genital and HSV2 both oral and genital??  Maybe some people are confused, or I am confused....  But, I tested positive for genital herps according to my doctor.  I had an outbreak which as since been treated.  He said that I had the definitive test - he took a culture from one of my lesions.  He said there is only oral and genital herpes - he did not tell me that I have HSV1 or HSV2 only that it's genital.  He did call my genital herpes "Herpes Symplex(?) Virus 2" and refered to HSV1 as oral.  He even talked with a specialist after I questioned him about all of this and he reported back it all to me.

So....is there HSV1 and HSV2 genital herpes??  If so, what is the difference?  And, is there HSV! and HSV2 oral herpes?  And, what is the difference there?
