Q: I am going through my first out break. How long does it last for?

I started getting flu-like symptoms on the 16th of Dec and was diagnosed on the 23rd. It has been about 20 days and I still see a sore on the inside of my vagina. When will this go away?

The first outbreak tends to be the worst, so it will probably be better for you from now on if you get future outbreaks. Your first outbreak should be over very soon - they usually last under 2 weeks.

There are medications you can try, as well as natural treatments. I use Herpaflor, which you can get on the Internet, because it is natural, has not side effects, and is a lot cheapter than Valtrex. There are many other options as well.

My first outbreak was in 1997. Ive only had one or two slight flare-ups since then.

The first lasted about 3 days but was really only painful for a day or two.

Since then ive noticed sex doesnt feel exactly the same, but that could be from age also (I'm 38 now)

I was scared and humiliated and mad and everything else when it happened, but its just a "skinconvenience" at times. You'll notice your diet, health, stress all need to be controlled to a certain degree.

Check the forums online, and if you can, see if you can go to a support group if you're really stressing over it, or if you just need information as to what to do next.

I wish you luck. Remember it isnt fatal.
