You can pass herpes if you have ANY kind of sex. Vaginal, oral and yes, anal. You can minimize the risk of transmission by monitoring outbreaks, taking supressive medications (Valtrex, etc.) and using condoms, but there is no "alternative sex" that is herpes-proof.
Also, there is no cure for herpes yet. Beware anything that claims otherwise, like this person that is promoting Lectroject.
