Q: Will I ever be able to have a relationship with a man. I have not been involved for 3 yrs

I found out about my situation 4 years ago after being involved with a man who was seeing everyone in town.

I have not had a relationship with a man since because I was devasted, ashamed and angry.

I have recently met a man who I care about and I believe he is very interested in me.  He has been calling me for about 3 months now.  I always make excuses why I can't see him, which is easy because he lives about 150 miles from me.

I know I can't commit to having sex with him without telling him first.  So I have decided not to tell him and to stop talking to him.

I am 53 years old and this really saddens me to think that I can never have a normal relationship again.

Hi godsblessing,

I am in somewhat of the same situation as you except I don't allow myself to get close to any man so I won't have to face your current situation.  I feel I am being punished because I became infected from a married man-he is a RN and first even denied giving me the condition when I confronted him.  I too am ashamed but feel I am undateable-so I have continued the relationship. With approximately 1 in 5 having herpes I feel you should give this man a chance but I would tell him upfront that you are going to take it slow.  You could bring up the topic of STD's if the relationship advances.  Having this discussion would be your opportunity to learn his opinion on STD's.  I wish you well.  Don't be like me.  Having herpes is upsetting but how sad it is to feel there is no hope to ever be in love and have someone to share the rest of your life.   Very sad indeed!!!!!!
