Thank you for your question. It's important for you to know that you can spread genital herpes at any time, whether or not you're having an outbreak. Taking Valtrex reduces your risk of spreading herpes, but there is no way to 100% guarantee that you will not spread the disease. You should definitely avoid all sexual activity during an outbreak, and even when you're not having an outbreak you should be sure to use safe sex practices.
