Topics:Genital HerpesDating With HerpesTransmissionOral Sex

I have just been diagnosed with oral and genital herpes and believe it is from oral sex (we have not had intercourse at all) from a new partner who I have only known for a few weeks. I'm not sure if he is aware of having the disease or not; he has obviously never mentioned it to me nor did I notice any symptoms. Is it all right for me to, theoretically, kiss him once my outbreak is over? Could/will this trigger an outbreak in either of us, even if I do not have one at the time? How will our relationship work in future - if I do not have outbreaks and he does not have symptoms, can we further infect each other or trigger outbreaks through kissing, touching, etc. at anytime? Basically, when are we safe?!

There are two types of HSV, HSV type 1 and 2, and both can cause genital herpes.
