Topics:Test ResultsValtrex

Yesterday was my second test for herpes2 in past 2 months. First time I was negative. Second time I was negative. BUt i have a one round little breakout between my vagina and anus. It itches a little but only when I wipe after using the bathroom. Other than that it just feel tender to touch. NO PAIN. I've noticed this outbreak one week ago. There are no other signs or symptoms. Now, yesterday when my blood test showed negative again, I told my doctor to check out my "Rash" when he looked at it he said that it looks like herpes2. When I asked how come blood test doesn't show? He's response was maybe it's in laten stage. Well, I researched this topic in and out last night. And I found out that there is a laten stage, but it would include both no symptoms nor blood detection. All would be negative. Last time I had sex with possibly infected person was two months ago. And doctor says that if it is genetal herpes than I was exposed to it 3-4 days ago (which is imposible), other than that if i was infected two months ago, my test would have been possitive by now. He still put me on Valtrex, because he says he is 99.9% sure it is. What should I do? Is it possible to have symptoms and no antibodies? Should  I take valtrex based on his oppinion or wait and see what happens? WHAT SHOULD I DO?????????????????????????????????????

I know everyone out there is a bit frustrated with the whole Herpes scene because there are so many presentations - from typical recurrences with the standard rash/pain to the whole other side of the spectrum - symptome free for years.  Based on what you describe I can tell you that when someone has herpes they can still get false negative or if they don't have it they can still get false positive.  Find out which specific test your doctor did both times; find out if in both cases they ran a "control test" along with it - which helps to confirm the accuracy fo the actual herpes test findings.  I also wouldn't hesitate to get a second opinion.  Finally I'd be sure to either wait till you have that second opinion before gettin intimate with anyone - or err on the side of caution and even if your partner uses a condom routinely - at minimum tell them before hand that you may indeed have herpes.

There are two types of HSV, HSV type 1 and 2, and both can cause genital herpes.
