After 10 years of marriage my wife had major herpes break out and I am unifected.  Can she have gotten the virus without sleeping with some one else?  I have been monogamous and she claims same.  She gets fever blisters constantly now.

Let me offer a couple of pieces of information that may or may not apply -#1 are you assuming you are not infected because you don't have the lesions or rash recurrences - you can be a carrier and never have those. #2 Your wife could have been infected many years ago and only just had her first outbreak (due to stress or other factors #3 it has to be stated - one of you could possibly have had even a one time exposure during your marriage #4 - I would get an MDs opinion and confirmation that she does indeed have it and that you don't.

I am not an expert!!  But from what I have read lately, there are people who have herpes for years without knowing it and some people never develop signs or symptoms and some people don't have an outbreak for a long time after initial infection.  Read information at WebMD and keep researching.

There are two types of HSV, HSV type 1 and 2, and both can cause genital herpes.
