Is there a test to find out if you have Herpes 1 or 2?

Are all cold sores, fever blisters Herpes? I just spoke with my brother, whose son has Herpes, and he said all lip blisters are Herpes. I would like to know if there is a test that will determin if you have the virus or not, and if they can determin which one you have if you do have it.

Thank you for your post. If you think you may have been exposed to herpes, it is pertintent that you go see or talk to a docotr.
