Hi Doug,   Thanks for posting your question.  I'm not a doctor, so I cannot give you medical advice, but I have herpes and know a lot about the disease.   The odds of transmission of genital herpes through semen is very high, considering the disease can live in bodily fluids (it does not, however, live in the blood).  The easiest way to transmit herpes is through contact of a sore.  But even if someone doesn't have a sore, he/she can still spread herpes through his/her semen, vaginal fluid, or spit.     For more information I suggest you check out the our Herpes Transmission page, as well as the Prevention and Herpes Basics pages.     Hope that helps.   PJ
