Q: IgG and IgM results are confusing

My genital culture came back positive for HSV1.

IgM was negative for HSV1, and positive for HSV2.

IgG was negative for both 1 & 2.

What is going on??

Hi there,

From my understanding and I am not an expert, IgG is not as sensitive as other tests and it usually takes 6months after the initial exposure for the test to pick it up and show definite possitive/negative results. From how it looks, you probably got infected within last 6 months. This should narrow your search and hopefully answer some questions.

Good Luck, please write back if you will find out anything else. Thanks
