Q: Tests?

How accurate are blood tests? I had a type 2 specific blood test down by Lab Safe if anyone has heard of them. I had symptoms when I took the test of what I gathered through internet research as genital herpes. I don't know they exact count but the guy I that called me with my results told me the test was negative. I asked him how accurate the tests are and he said 99% active if you are having symptoms. I want to be relieved but I can't help but wonder. I don't know if I should retest or test for type 1 but I'm pretty sure I have type one since I have had fever blisters since I was a kid. Maybe 1 -2 times a year. Also how often is clear penile discharge associated with herpes..

The discharge you are describing would not be the typical presentation of herpes.  It's usually a rash that breaks out, that can be painful, even itchy and then the raised areas turn into vesicles that 'weep the fluid."  it's obvious that you know youhave type 1 - and understand that if you were to perform oral sex, you could give a woman type 1 as a genital form.

With regards to the testing, type 2 specific should be pretty accurate testing - you can check the lab out by contacting the public health department in your city or state and seeing if they are a "reliable lab.'
