Shingles is a re-activation of the same herpes virus that causes chicken pox.  The outbreak can be painful with vesicles presenting in a linear (line) formation along a nerve pathway (hence the pain).  Anywhere there are nerve pathways - you can technically get a breakout - typically on the trunk - but you can even get herpes in the eye or ocular area.

I'm assuming your doctor will get the results of the viral titers and identification so I would sit tight and see what the lab tests reveal.
