Your husband contracted HSV2 by skin to skin contact with an infected partner. Don't freak out. He may have contracted it years before you knew him. Many people have HSV2 and do not know it. 1 in 5 people aged 12 and older are infected with HSV2, only about 10% of those infected know that they are infected. Condoms reduce the risk of transmission, but are not very effective, because the virus can be present on skin not covered by the condom. I caught it while wearing a condom. The social stigma associated with this virus is unfounded. HSV1 (oral herpes) causes cold sores on the lip / facial area and are not stigmatised, HSV2 (genital herpes) causes sores on the genital, buttocks area and are heavily stigmatised. Fact: They are slightly different strains of the same virus. Do your homework, there is lots of information available. Do not assume your husband was unfaithful, while this may be possible, it's also possible he's had it most of his life, but didn't know.

Hope this helps!
