Q: Is there a test to prove you dont have genital herpes

my ex-boyfriend has genital herpes i have never gotten it but he is sayin he got it from me when i know he didnt is there a blood test or any other test for me to get to prove i do not have genital herpes and that it was from him ?

Hi Jennifer,

 

Thanks for posting your question.  I'm not a doctor, so cannot make medical judgements, but I do have herpes and I think I can answer your question.

 

Yes, there is a blood test you can get to find out whether you do/don't have herpes.  You should contact your doctor soon to set up an appointment, as it usually takes at least a week to get the results back.  If you don't have health insurance you can call Planned Parenthood and tell them about your situation to get an appointment.  If you've never been tested for herpes, it would be a good idea to have one done.  And while you're there, get tested for everything else!
