Appx. 2 yrs. ago, in Feb of 2004, I was diagnosed with Genital Herpes. My partner at the time had a cold sore on his chin and performed oral sex on me. I thought it was just a pimple until the outbreak hit me really hard 2 days later. I went throught my initial outbreak, but I haven't had an outbreak since. The only place that I believe was infected was my genital area, since I have yet to see any symptoms on or around my mouth. My current partner, gets cold sores on her mouth appx. once every 1 or 2 yrs. and is the only place which seems infected.
The doctor I saw for my intitial outbreak told me to expect more throughout the year and to watch my stress due to it being a trigger. Since then, although I have suffered through many many stressfull endeavors, I have yet to see another outbreak. Could this be a HSV-1 genital infection? Could my current partner's infection be oral HSV-1? If so, would oral sex be possible? We would love to further our relationship, but its difficult with these questions in our heads. What are the chances of infecting each other if it is HSV-2 vs. HSV-1?
Is it also possible to do a type-testing this late in the game, with accurate results??
I'm so confused... please help.
