Is the HSV-2 virus located in the genitals or mouth? If it is genital herpes, he can get through oral sex with you because shedding in the lower spine (whether or not you can see any visible sores) occur in the genital and nearby surrounding areas. If the virus resides in the upper spine (oral heerpes), yes you can give it to your  partner by kissing. Checkout this website from the NY Times: consults.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/genital-herpes.

Look at all of the columns related to herpes. It's very informative.
