Hi private life,
Thanks for asking your question. I'm not a doctor, but I have herpes and have done some research on the disease.
From what I've seen online, in the news, and around college campuses, there are many different researchers working on coming up with a vaccine. Studies are being held as we speak using uninfected people to receive what could become the standard herpes vaccine. Many scientists are focusing their studies on women, since women have a higher rate of getting the disease, but eventually there will be a vaccine for everyone. No one can say at this point when it will happen, but my guess is within the next few years there may be a first vaccine out, just like there is now for many strains of HPV. Unfortunately, like HPV, the vaccine may be very expensive. I'm hoping that the health industry will not be for-profit by this time!
As someone with herpes, this won't affect my life much, but it will make it easier to tell partners I have the disease. Instead of potential partners worrying about contracting it from me, they can just get the vaccine. What a relief!
Sorry I couldn't be more specific, but rest assured that people are busying working on it.
PJ
