Q: i have genital herpes transmitted through unprotected sex, how can i relive the pain?

when sleeping with my boyfriend of 6 months recently i have found there to be a burning sensation whislt having sex. the area around the entrance 2 my vagina has now broken out into small blisters which are very uncomfortable. i now know this is genital herpes and is very painful and stingy. i find myself actually wanting to cry with the pain sometimes despite taking painkillers throughout my day. i was wondering what medication or cream was available (over the counter) to help relive the pain and perhaps speed up the healing process as this has now lasted about 6 days.

Definitely let your doctor know how much you are suffering with the pain/discomfort.  Other treatment options that may help:

  • Take aspirin, Tylenol or ibuprofen
  • Use lukewarm or slightly cool compresses on the affected areas
  • A warm, soothing bath can help.  If you are having pain urinating, you might want to try and pee in the water just before getting; it can help make urinating less painful.
  • Always keep the area clean and dry
  • Consider wearing 100% soft cotton underwear and loose fitting clothing

Hope that helps.
