Genital herpes is in the genital area. Kissing mouth to mouth will not spread the virus because the virus is not in our bodily fluids. Having unprotected sex, vaginal or oral, can spread the virus. During an outbreak you are less likely to want to have sex,but if you do want to you must use a barrier to prevent the transmission of it. You can have sores on the buttocks area or other areas that are not covered by the typical safe sex barrier, that's another reason why sex should be avoided all together during an outbreak or during the time when you feel an outbreak coming.
