Q: Depilatory cream burn ulcers or genital herpes?

I recently used a depilatory cream around my genital area and perianal area.  I apparently burned the skin around my perianal area because shortly after it was very inflamed and what appeared to be ulcers weeping fluid appeared shortly after.

I thought that this was more of a chemical burn than anything else, but after examining the area more thoroughly the ulcers seem to be round and cluster like.  I did not have blistering at all, just what appears to be small circular ulcerations.    Could the chemical burn possibly have induced a hsv outbreak in the event that I had herpes and was not aware of it?  Or does this sound more like just the repercussion of a chemical burn...
