Q: a friend is TPHA positive test for syphilis.but negative in RPR.her doctor told her that nothing to worry about.yr 2006 her husband is negative in TPHA test..they've been married since yr 1999.but yr

2002 her husband got cold sore around the lip.latest outbreak is last week.he is an worker abroad so he has an regular test for TPHA..not sure for other std's.how was that happened?why her husband got cold sore if he is negative in TPHA test?i got some research..the cold sore is herpes simplex virus(oral)symptoms.but it can be symptom for syphilis or herpes simplex virus-2 oral..i'm not sure.and is it possible that their kids are also a syphilis carrier?please help me.note;my friend dont have the signs of syphilis..esp on her genital area and her husband also..except the cold sore around his mouth.the infectious disease doctor told her that the TPHA test is only to detect if a person has syphilis..RPR detects what stage.unfortunetly tha person who  is positve in TPHA it remains positive forever.is it true that  her husband may become positive in TPHA after 10yrs?
