Hi Sharon,
I imagine that you are very frustrated by never having had an orgasm, and I hope that I can steer you in the right direction towards getting help that will enable you to solve the problem.
There are a number of possible reasons for a woman to fail to achieve orgasm and they fall into two categories: Physical and Psychological
Physical Causes
1. Certain drugs such as SSRI antidepressants
2. Alcohol has the potential to impair responsiveness
3. Certain diseases such as multiple schlerosis, spinal cord injury, hormonal disorders, diabetic neuropathy, and other chronic illnesses
Psychological/Emotional Causes
1. Anxiety
2. Unresolved feelings about prior sexual abuse/rape
3. Negative attitudes towards sex
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list, but to get your thinking going about what the cause might be for you. My suggestion is that you rule out any physical cause with your Primary Care Physician first. If there is no physical cause, then it could be very helpful to seek therapy. You can find some referrals in your city on the Psychology Today website.
Best Wishes,
Dr. Jennifer Fee
