Q: My daughter is looking for a chapstick she can use that will not give her an outbreak of cold sores. Is there anything available or a daily pill to prevent the cold sores??

Can't seem to find a reason why she has an outbreak whenever she puts a chapstick on her lips. She is a fair complected red head. Any suggestions?? Please help, Thanks Dad

They use Acyclovir for HSV-1 (oral herpes). Cold sores aren't necessarily HSV-1 but an antiviral drug may help. Talk to a doctor.
