Q: Can the herpes virus cause the onset of lupus?

If herpes was contracted nearly 13 years ago. Although, i've not had a herpes flare up for 7ish years. Can having the herpes virus on board cause the onset of Systemic Lupus Erythematosis? I was diagnosed with SLE just over a week ago. but have been having obvious symptoms of SLE for a good few years.

No, but if you had a mild case of lupus, or it had not had shown up yet; lupus would compromise your immune system further resulting in more outbreaks. The outbreaks would further compromise your lupus. The first few years after being infected with herpes, my outbreaks were mild although four or five times a year. I then developed lichen scerlosis. Until I was able to boost my immune system, I was having outbreaks lasting up to three weeks every month. Is it possible that herpes brought on the lichen scerlosis? Possibly. However, I most likely had a mild case and the herpes made it worse.

Unfortunately, much is written that outbreaks from herpes disappear within a few years and other than transferring the virus to another person, it poses no health risks. It certainly hasn't been the case with me. Herpes can be devastating for persons with an autoimmune disease. No one with herpes, should withhold having it to an unifected partner. If they do, the unifected partner has to understand they are always at risk of getting infected even with condoms and antiviral drugs.
