Q: If both partners have genital HSV 2, can oral sex cause oral HSV-2
No. HSV-1 (oral herpes) can live in the upper spine (causing outbreaks to the mouth) and lower spine (causing outbreaaks in the genital areas). HSV-2 (genital herpes) lives in the lower spine and does not shed from the upper spine.
