Q: Can I be tested to find out if I have both HSV-1 and HSV-2?

I have had oral herpes since childhood and recently been diagnosed with genital herpes. My doctor says that oral herpes can establish itself in the genital area at any time. Is there a test to distinguish if I the infections in each area are both HSV-1, or if one is HSV-1 and the other is HSV-2?

Yes there is.  It tested negative for HSV1 and positive for HSV2.
