Q: MY BOYFRIEND HAS HAD GENITAL HERPES FOR 9 YEARS WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF ME GETTING IT?

MY BOYFRIEND HAS HAD GENITAL HERPES FOR 9 YEARS. MESSED AROUND WITH SOME OTHER GIRL IN THE PAST WITHOUT A CONDOM WHO NEVER GOT IT. IT'S NOT OFTEN AT ALL FOR HIM TO GET AN OUTBREAK MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR AND WE'VE MESSED AROUND A COUPLE TIMES WITHOUT A CONDOM AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT ARE THE CHANCES OF ME GETTING IT? BECAUSE I HEARD THAT YOU COULD ONLY GET IT IF THEY HAVE AN OUTBREAK? I THINK NOW THAT I WAS MIS INFORMED. AND AM SCARED

I think your chances are slim I was with the man I caught this from over 100 times with no condom but oral sex with a fever blister is a big no no! But if you have caught this you you will know because your first outbreak is so painful it is indescibable Reply

THANXS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO ANSWER MY QUESTION. SO YOUR SAYING THAT AFTER 100 TIMES THAN YOU CAUGHT IT? SO MY SAFEST WAY OF PERVENTING MYSELF FROM GETTING IT IS IF WE USE PROTECTION EVERYTIME? A FEVER BLISTER IS THAT THE SAME AS GENITAL HERPES? & IF I CAUGHT A FEVER BLISTER OR ARE YOU REFERRING TO THE GENITAL HERPES? IF I CAUGHT THEM? SORRY JUST WASN'T SURE.

if he has no outbreak you cannot catch the virus but if he does have a fever blister on his mouth or anywhere for that matter and touches the blister to your genitals you will catch the virus i did not get the virus from having sex i got it from oral sex. as long as he doesnt have an outbreak you wont catch it but i would definately protect myself everytime. just to make sure because some outbreaks you cannot see with your naked eye unless you REALLY  know what to look for.

i think you should re-check your info.. you CAN get it even if he has no outbreak. the virus can still be passed on between people breakout or not. obviously theres a much higher chance when there is an outbreak and i would avoid having sex of any kind untill this is completely healed.

a fever blister is herpes simplex viral 1 and it is only oral (on the lips) herpes viral simplex 2 is in the genital area or anywhere else but generally in the genetals if your significant other has a fever blister and yall have oral sex you will catch the virus. i had sex a million times w. my hubby and never caught it until he had a oral blister then i contracted the virus from him touching it to my genitals. but if you do not want this virus and i am assuming  you dont i suggest you use protection every time. and just as a precautionary make sure befor intercouse there is no sign if an outbreak at all.
