Q: Dating someone with Herpes, is there a vaccine that will prevent me from getting?

Hello,

I just met someone whom I am interested in dating. She told me she has Herpes and takes medication for that. Going into such a relationship is there any vaccine or prevention?  She said she was married for 14 years and her husband never contracted.

Unfortunately the Gardasil vaccine is for girls ages 10 to young adulthood.  There is no vaccine you can take.  Please read up on safe sex on this site which offers a host of techniques including always using a condom.  She might consider taking acyclovir to reduce her viral load.  Do not assume that because her husband remained HSV2 free does not mean you won't get it.  If they took all the precautions recommended then clearly it shows that you can avoid trnasmission if you "follow the rules."
