Q: if there is a breakout of herpes on the head is there a greater risk of other complications?

I had no idea that i had herpes when i gave birth to my daughter.  she contracted it from me at that time.  she now has the first outbreak in 12 years and it has happened on her head, where it first appeared at birth.  are there other complications considering it is on her scalp?  i'm not sure where to turn at this point.  would something like abreva be a method of controlling it?

She examined by a doctor - her pediatircian would be fine - and you need to discuss the viability of anti-viral medications and local treatments.  I would want to prevent it from getting infected and since it's on her scalp, brushing or combing her hair, even washing her her vigorously with active rash - could be a problem.  You may have certain precautions and cleansing agents recommended to.  As a secondary option - you could see a dermatologist.
