There are people that have herpes and have no symptoms even with the first outbreak. Usually, symptoms will appear within a few days to two weeks. Without symptoms, the virus can be transmitted. 70% of persons infected are by persons showing no symptoms. A condom alone is 30% and antiviral drugs taken alone is 49% effective. The only way not to get herpes is to avoid sexual relations with an infected partner.
