Thanks so much for your question.

It can be overwhelming when being diagnosed with herpes, especially while being in a relationship. However, there are several good links on our website that might be helpful. Amy Hendel, one of our experts, wrote a post about being diagnosed, while being in a relationship. Another expert, Penelope James, writes about Oral Herpes, Genital Herpes, and Dating in this post. It is always best to talk to a doctor about any issues relating to your health, specifically with a herpes diagnosis.

Odds are that you contracted it from this partner even if they have not shown any symptoms of having herpes.

If you had had a previous partner then it would have been possible that you contracted it from an earlier partner and not shown symptoms or been diagnosed until now.

Has your partner been tested for herpes yet?

Have you informed your partner of your diagnosis and discussed it with them?

There are two types of HSV, HSV type 1 and 2, and both can cause genital herpes.
