Q: Can i get checked out for Herpies with out my parents knowing?

My ex boyfriend and I have had sex 3 times and he just found out a week ago that he has herpies. Eveytime we did it we used a condom. I am now 18 and was wondering if there is some place I can go to get checked out with out my parents knowing? Also am I at risk?

Yes, you are at risk as long as he's got the virus. You need to both learn all you can about the virus and how it's spread and how he can minimize the number of outbreaks and the duration of any outbreaks that he gets. You can go to any women's clinic now that you are 18. You should be going soon for your first gyn appt. anyway since you are 18 and are sexually active...this all goes along with being a responsible grown up.  Be truthful with any health care provider and tell them that you have been exposed to the virus, as there is a blood/serum test to determine if you have the antibodies in your system..indicating that you have the virus.  Make an appointment ASAP with your local health department or regular OB/GYN clinic or dr's office. Seek guidance from your mother, aunt, or some other female that you are close to in choosing a facility. You don't have to tell them all the reasons why you need an appt.  I hope this helps.
