When I was a child, I would get cold sores with a cold. Now I get them about once a year but there is alot of activity going on in the inside of my lip where they come. How do I know if I contract herpes through sex or is that the only way a person can get herpes 1?

type 1 is the most common, you don't always catch it by being sexually active. You can catch it by charing drinks with other people & kissing. I remember lots of kids in my class (when I was little) had cold sores. Don't feel ashamed, it's quite common.
