Hi concernedguy,
Thanks for your question. Though I'm not a doctor or scientist, I do have herpes and think I can answer you.
The chances of someone getting herpes through a hot tub is pretty much null. You need to have skin-to-skin contact to pass on the virus, so merely sharing a hot tub with someone would not be enough. It is, after all, considered a sexually transmitted disease; the virus cannot be spread through water, air, or a toilet seat.
Sex in a hot tub? That's another story.
For more information, I suggest you check out the Herpes Basics, Causes and Risk Factors, and Transmission pages.
