herpes testing ?

I have read in a number of places that genital herpes can move through semen. Though I have read in a number of places that herpes can not transmit in semen. Can a test be done to check if one has genital herpes though a semen examination? There are two types of HSV, HSV type 1 and 2, and both can cause genital herpes.
