Researchers at Johns Hopkins University have found that exposure to the cold sore virus is linked to shrinking of regions of the brain in people with schizophrenia. The scientists say they are not certain why schizophrenia makes the brains of people with the condition more vulnerable to the virus, but they say the shrinking it causes may explain the losses in concentration, dexterity, and memory often seen in schizophrenia patients.
