Herpes Treatment

Researchers at the University of Florida are researching a treatment that may help prevent the recurrence of herpes. The approach uses an RNA enzyme to disable a gene responsible for setting off the periodic recurrences of cold sores, fever blisters, genital herpes, encephalitis, and keratitis that occur after a patient has been infected. Researchers say the method appears to work in animal models, but they note that it's too early to tell whether it will work in human patients.
