A U.S. District Court judge has asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to revisit a decision to limit access to the "morning-after" non-prescription contraceptive pill to women ages 18 years and older. The pill, also known as the plan B pill, say the FDA departed from its usual policies regarding this type of medication when it barred women under 18 to buy the over-the-counter drug. U.S. District Judge Edward R. Korman says the FDA must reconsider whether to make the drug available to all women, regardless of age, without a prescription. The plan B pill is intended to prevent pregnancy up to 72 hours after a woman has unprotected sex.
