FDA panel weighs approving HPV vaccine for men

A committee of experts that advises the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is weighing whether to approve Gardasil, the vaccine for the human papillomavirus (HPV), for use in boys as well as girls. HPV is a sexually transmitted virus that has been linked to genital warts in both males and females, cervical cancer in women, and penile and anal cancer in men. Experts say clinical trials have shown the drug is effective at protecting boys from the virus, and vaccinating males will provide protection for their female sexual partners as well.  Read full story >
