A Canadian court has denied a man's claim that he is entitled to an accident insurance award because he became paralyzed due to a rare complication of herpes after having unprotected sex with three women. Randolph Gibbens, 51, developed transverse myelitis, a rare complication of herpes, in 2006, a condition that has left him paralyzed from the mid-abdomen down. While the court agreed that Mr. Gibbens' situation was "tragic," they did not feel it met the criteria of being caused by "external, violent and accidental means" within the meaning of the insurance policy's wording.
