Officials at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are warning users of the HIV drugs Videx and Videx EC that the medications can cause a rare but potentially life-threatening liver complication. The FDA has received reports of 42 patients suffering this type of liver problem, which can result in severe bleeding and death. The drugs' labels have been changed to warn patients about the possible reaction, and FDA experts say the decision to use the drug should be left up to the patients and their doctors.
