FDA Cracks Down on Fake STD Cures

Officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are taking action on fake pills and supplements that some companies claim will prevent or cure sexually transmitted diseases such as genital warts, herpes, and HIV. About a dozen companies selling products such as Medavir, C-Cure, and Herpaflor received warning letters from the FDA this week, saying none of the products have been proven to treat any disease and should not be marketed with these claims. FDA officials say these bogus treatments are being targeted to patients who have serious medical conditions, for which treatment options that are proven to be safe and effective are available.  Read full story >
