Over half of Americans think the next U.S. President should support. . .access to electronic medical records.   Compared to gas prices, the economy and the war in Iraq, this is, needless to say, a fairly minor issue. Even within the issue of health care reform, access to EMRs, as digital medic...

And how are they going to protect patient privacy?  How are they going to keep big pharma from buying records and swamping people with advertising?  How are they going to keep hackers out of the system? Too many problems exist with on-line sites to trust that medical records will be secure and not be the target of those who would make money off of using them.

I agree. Who is going to actually protect patient privacy? Sounds to me like too many big chiefs want info that I most cetainly don't want to allow them access to, including and especially Obama himself. And he will have acccess, make no mistake!

The best solution, which protects privacy while allowing emergency personnel access to vital information, is www.MyMedicalRecords.com. You can take a test drive for 30 days free.

Change is coming to America and every American will be a number in the computer whose privacy can be hacked into and whose medical information can be accessed and allows for the government and judicial system and employees to access your medical records just like they access your criminal history.  Another step towards globalization and control of freedoms for America put in a way that it will be better for the people. And, people will say, "Yes, we can," as their privacy rights according to the U.S. Constitution are compromised in my opinion and eventually eliminated.

Amen, brother. But there are a lot of  advantages to electronic record keeping. One thing that nobody has tried is effective punishments for people who abuse privacy OTHER THAN teenage hackers. Government agencies or employees who abuse privacy should be exposed and prosecuted. And there should be effective monitoring of privacy by embedding fictional records with colorful and provocative content to see if it surfaces. Then the guilty parties could be identified and punished. Of course it is too-big-to-prosecute people at the top who do this all the time with impunity. They've always got some kind of excuse. But perhaps there's a way to pull it off.

And this is why i DONT go to doctors - I will not even allow a doctor to WRITE down ANYTHING i say as all of it is discoverable -- I will orally tell a doc something on a need to know basis only

Believe me - years as an atty with insurance companies etc have taught me you want as little as possible written and especially computerized about you!

Hi, I'm anonymous female out in California who appreciates your input as I think we can all agree that our freedoms, especially our privacy, is not so private and for whatever reason, Obama is on a fast track to make sure that everyone is an open book as quickly as possible - after all, he may only have four years to take us down the road of "change coming to America" - at least, that's my hope.  A rose in the OC

I don't think you'd see any better from the Republicans, who gave us the Patriot Act. I suggest you write your congressperson and ask for legislation to protect the privacy of our records not only from drug companies looking to sell us stuff or teenagers hacking for fun, but from abuse by the government itself. That's the main threat.

Yes, Peter, it's not just liberals or democrats, but individuals from all parties.  In the 90s, Clinton leased the Lincoln bedroom and took money from foreign interests including Muslims nations and was involved in a sex scandal, opening up our borders and outsourcing our jobs and diminishing the National Defense.  Its been one incident after the other involving public servants from both parties, unfortunately. The White House has produced the longest running reality show ever that involves who done it, mystery, intrigue, stealing, lying, power mongers, con artists, entertainers, charmers, honest ones and not so honest ones, patriots as well as spies, adultery, glamour,  wars, politicans caught with their internet porn or interest in kids, and other acts of misconduct all rolled onto one big stage which has no boundaries or limits when it comes to parties - oops, I mean political parties. It's a shame that the carpet of the White House has been so stained by too many ungrateful guests paid for by the U.S. taxpayers who deserve better.
